At the same time, you’ll witness the pinnacle of ordered chaos, as humans, wildlife, and automobiles compete for space in the buzzing metropolis.

Jaipur, known as the Pink City because to its distinctive terracotta architecture, is rich in culture and history. Many people consider Jaipur, Rajasthan’s capital, to be an essential site to visit in India. Architectural wonders, historical sites, photography hotspots, and bustling markets are among the major tourist attractions in Jaipur.

Here are our ten fave things to do in the city.

Amber Palace

Opulent The Amber Palace is one of Jaipur’s most stunning architectural landmarks. The complex was previously home to the city’s Royal Family, and it was lavishly decorated in true Rajasthani style. The palace, built of red and yellow sandstone and white marble, is one of several UNESCO Heritage Sites distributed throughout the city.

When discussing the palace, various names are frequently used. Also known as the Amber Fort or the Amer Palace, your driver will know where to take you.

Inside the palace complex, you will find a series of gardens, courtyards, and chambers, each equally lovely as the structure itself.

Unfortunately, there is one negative aspect to the Amber Palace: they push elephant rides through the gardens. I’m sure most of you are aware of the atrocities of animal tourism; nevertheless, if you are not, please educate yourself before participating in such activities.

Nonetheless, Amber Palace remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in Jaipur. We only ask that you do not encourage elephant riding during your visit.

Amer Fort Viewpoint

If you’re looking for a hidden gem in Jaipur, we recommend the Amer Fort Viewpoint as a great place to get away from the crowds. Located across from Amber Palace, the many watchtowers provide a beautiful view of the fortification and lake below. Often, flocks of pigeons throng the grounds, enhancing the vista and adding to the charm.

To reach the perspective, you must first climb some difficult stairs. While it isn’t a long walk, it will certainly raise your heart rate, especially in the heat. Fortunately, not many people frequent this location, so you may enjoy the view in privacy. Such calm might be difficult to find in bustling Jaipur, so make the most of it while you can.

The Amer Fort is undoubtedly one of the top locations to see in Jaipur.

The Jaipur City Palace

The City Palace, located in the centre of the Pink City, is likely the most popular tourist destination in Jaipur. It is the Jaipur attraction that every local, online, and guidebook suggests you visit. However, this does not imply that it should be a top priority on your to-do list.

First, let me clarify. The palace complex, a UNESCO listed edifice and the abode of Jaipur’s royal dynasty, is undeniably beautiful. However, we couldn’t help but feel like it was a tourist trap. After paying a high entrance fee in comparison to other sites in India (USD10), we expected the cost to be justified. However, we were saddened to discover that we could only visit specific portions of the complex. If you want to access all sections, plan to pay roughly RS2000, which is comparable to USD25.

Furthermore, while wandering the grounds, we were frequently approached to purchase something, whether it was a postcard or an expensive piece of artwork. It felt exploitative, and we didn’t enjoy it.

If you are interested in Jaipur’s history or appreciate photography, you may have a better experience than we did. However, if you’re on a tight budget, I recommend saving the admission price and using it to visit other attractions in Jaipur.

Patrika Gate

Jaipur is one of India’s most photographed cities. While there are plenty of Instagram-worthy chances around every corner, some are more well-known than others. With this in mind, I am confident the legendary Patrika Gate requires little introduction.

The monument’s vivid design is a photographer’s dream. While its beauty inspires wanderlust in those who see it.

In addition to being aesthetically beautiful, the gate acts as an entrance to Jawahar Circle Garden.

The gardens, located 10 km outside of the city centre, provide a tranquil respite from the urban jungle. However, unless you arrive very early, you shouldn’t expect to be alone at the gate.

Nonetheless, tourism in Jaipur is incomplete without taking a photo at Patrika Gate, which is a true highlight of all Jaipur attractions.

Nahargarh Fort

To see one of Jaipur’s spectacular sunsets, head to Nahargarh Fort one late afternoon.

It’s a bit of a journey to get there, especially in a tuk-tuk, which frequently battles for pace on the steep, winding road to the fort’s entrance. However, the breathtaking perspective of Jaipur is unparalleled, in my opinion.

Historically, the spectacular castle erected in the Aravali highlands served as a defence wall around the old city. The name ‘Nahargarh’ means ‘Tiger Fort’ in English, therefore I can only presume that tigers formerly roamed those mountains. You can practically see the sight as you stand atop the historic fort.

Even without the urban jungle, Jaipur remains a captivating desert city.

If you arrive at the fort before sundown, you can see the wax museum and galleries within. Otherwise, the highlight is roaming around the fort and finding a position to witness one of India’s best sunsets.

I have to admit that one of the only benefits of pollution in Jaipur is that it makes for a spectacular sunset!

Galta Ji Temple

Galta Ji, also known as the Monkey Temple, was one of our favourite spots in Jaipur.

We visited many temples during our vacation in India, but Galta Ji was one of the most unusual.

The monkey temple, located in Jaipur’s mountains, got its name from the thousands of Rhesus Macaques that live on the property. Tourists frequently feed the monkeys, thus carrying food is dangerous. The monkeys may look sweet, but we’ve seen them steal food from people’s hands. You have been warned!

Galta Ji is sometimes referred to as the Hanuman Temple, named after the Hindu monkey god.

Devotees regard the temple to be a holy journey. If you visit during the day, you will likely see residents soaking in the seven holy baths. Remember, this is a special and personal moment for them. One that we are privileged to observe. So please be respectful at all times.

Taking images of natives bathing is not acceptable, and I would avoid doing so unless you have permission.

Jaipur Stepwell

The varied stepwells found throughout India are another illustration of the country’s unique architecture.

Historically, stepwells were used to gather water during times of drought. Today, they are a popular tourist attraction and Instagram destination.

You don’t have to spend too long admiring the structure; yet, the Stepwell’s exciting design made it one of our favourite locations to see in Jaipur.

Located near Amer Fort and Amber Palace, you can easily combine the three attractions in the morning or afternoon.

If you wish to photograph the Stepwell, be prepared to bribe the security guards.

Hawa Mahal

The Hawa Mahal, one of India’s most iconic buildings, is regarded as Jaipur’s crown gem. It was built in the late 1800s as an extension of the city palace to allow female members of the royal family to survey the city without being seen.

The complex’s distinctive architecture comprises 953 small windows carved with delicate latticework and imitating the structure of a honeycomb. It is a magnificent architectural masterpiece and unquestionably one of the top locations to visit in Jaipur.

While it is possible to pay an entrance charge and explore within the Hawa Mahal, many people choose to admire the wonder from afar. There are a couple of rooftop cafes next to the building, and many photographers go there to get some clean photos.

It’s also worthwhile returning one evening to see the palace from a new angle.

Brave the Bazaars

Jaipur is regarded as one of the best sites in India for street shopping, with a variety of marketplaces dotted across the city.

Visiting a traditional market, also known as a bazaar, is an excellent way to immerse yourself in the local culture. The smells, colours, and energy flowing around feel like a severe attack on the senses, yet in the greatest conceivable way.

If you want to take home some traditional Jaipur souvenirs, vivid saris, jewels, rugs, and puppets are popular choices.

If you enjoy shopping, Jaipur is a great place to indulge. Everything is extremely gorgeous and skillfully crafted. Some of Jaipur’s best marketplaces are located near the Hawa Mahal.

Don’t be scared to haggle; locals are opportunistic when it comes to foreigners. At the same time, make sure to haggle sensibly and pay what you believe is reasonable for the item.

Go on a Walking Adventure

Walking around Jaipur is the greatest way to explore the sights. You’ll not only learn about the top sites to visit in Jaipur, but you’ll also gain an appreciation for the local culture.

Jaipur exudes charisma, and you’re in the presence of some amazing people. Similar to other parts of India, 99% of the residents are willing to tell their stories. And I assure you won’t regret talking to the person serving you chai or samosas.

My only advise is to be respectful when shooting photographs. It’s natural to want to photograph the locals and their unusual ways of life; however, attempt to contact with them first and ensure that it’s okay.

Most of the time, you’ll get far more out of the interaction than simply a photograph.
